November 18, 2020

Arcohe Families,

We wanted to follow up with families regarding the recent movement back to distance learning for the remainder of the week.  On Tuesday, November 17, we received notification that one of our middle school students on the B schedule was diagnosed with the coronavirus.  We started our contact tracing protocols immediately to determine the possible exposure risk to students on campus.  The student first started experiencing symptoms on Saturday, November 14, so the procedures stipulate we must look at the contacts the student made two days prior to the onset of symptoms which would have been Thursday, November 12.  Since the student was on campus on this day, we had to determine which location this student was in and which students came in close contact with the student.  Due to the fact the student was in multiple locations based on the student’s schedule and rides the bus, we determined the student came in close contact with at least twenty-one other students and at least one teacher.  Based on these numbers, the Sacramento Public Health Department recommended the closing of the campus to further control the spread.

With these facts, I contacted the Arcohe Board of Trustees and we determined the best course of action was to close the physical campus from Wednesday, November 18 – Friday, November 20 to clean the affected areas and keep students safe.  School is also slated to be closed the week of November 23rd for the Thanksgiving break which give the areas ample time to be ready of students to return the following Monday.  We fully anticipate having the campus open on Monday, November 30 for the students to return for in-person learning. In the meantime, students are to log onto their Google Classrooms from Wednesday, November 18 – Friday, November 20.

We understand this news was not anticipated and not something anyone wanted to hear, but it is what we must do during this time. To keep everyone safe, it is vital we maintain our procedures and follow the directives given to us.  If your child or your family members are experiencing symptoms, please keep your child home and contact your medical provider for assistance.  We know not all symptoms are COVID-related, but we urge you to be mindful of what symptoms you do have and make the best choice for you and others. If your child is experiencing symptoms, please call the main office and leave a message so we can monitor cases.

Respectfully,
