Mr. Troy Miller, Superintendent/Principal

I was born  in Colorado but have had the opportunity to live in Colorado, Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa and California throughout my life. This experience has allowed me to see many different areas of the country and appreciate the differences we all have.  My family moved to Dixon in 1991 where I completed high school and attended Sacramento State.  In 1999, my wife and I moved to Illinois to attend Northern Illinois University for our graduate programs.  From 1999 to 2014, we lived in DeKalb, Illinois where we started our family and careers.  While we enjoyed our time in Illinois, we always knew we wanted to return to California when the time was right.  As I was looking at positions in Northern California and saw Arcohe School as a possible destination, I absolutely fell in love with the school.  I am very excited to be part of this school and community.

I have a been both a middle school principal (4 years) and elementary principal (2 years) as well as the coordinator the district bilingual education program in Mendota, IL.   My future plans include getting to know the wonderful families at Arcohe School, helping my three children become successful adults, and selecting a Doctoral program and completing the requirements for the degree to help students and teachers become more effective. If you are ever at the school, feel free to stop in and say hi!

 Mrs. Susan Applegate

I was born and raised in Sacramento.  I moved to Galt about 18 years ago with my wonderful husband and son.  I have one dog, Lucky, a Golden Retriever and two cats, Hector and Hobbes.  I enjoy teaching, traveling, and reading.

I earned an English degree from CSUS, a Multiple Subject Credential, and Supplemental English Credential from CSUC, and a CLAD Certificate from USD.  I also had the privilege of being the BTSA mentor for our district.  I have been teaching for over 20 years now, and I can't think of a better profession in which to work.  Most of the years, I've taught either first or second grade.  I can't say I have a favorite grade because each grade has its own challenges and rewards (mostly rewards).  I look forward to seeing my students achieve their academic goals.

 Mrs. Jeri Barnes

I have been a proud Herald resident since 1986. I received my bachelor's degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and my teaching credential from National University in Sacramento.  I have been teaching at Arcohe since 1999 and during that time I have taught grades 3,4,5,6 and 8! My daughter and son in law are both proud Arcohe graduates and I have two beautiful granddaughters. I am a supporter of youth sports, 4-H and FFA.  In my spare time my husband and I like to camp at the ocean or the mountains, ride motorcycles, boat in the delta and cruise around in our hot rods!  Stop by anytime and check out my room!

Mrs. Annette Benedict

This is my 21st year at Arcohe School.  I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, with a majority of that time in 3rd grade.  I have a Masters of Science in Education, a BA in Psychology, hold a Special Education teaching credential, and have a CTEL certificate.  I reside in Galt with my husband and  two children.

Mrs. Mandy Chavez
I grew up in Herald and attended Arcohe from Kindergarten through eighth grade.  I went to Galt High School and received my Bachelor's and Master's degree from National University.  This is my second year of teaching at Arcohe.  Prior to this, I taught at a Montessori school in Sacramento teaching grades ranging from first to sixth.  Some hobbies of mine are playing soccer, swimming, and playing guitar.  I love spending time with my family and being at our home.  My husband is from Nicaragua and we have been married for three years.  Our son is two and keeps my on my toes.  He's amazing and I love watching him grow and learn things everyday.

Mrs. Ginger Edwards

I earned my Multiple Subject Credential with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education, as well as a degree in Environmental Studies, from Sonoma State University. I have a Specialist Credential in Reading from the University of La Verne and a CLAD certificate from National University. I have taught for more than 25 years, with most of that time in kindergarten and first grade. I feel lucky to work with young children, and truly enjoy watching them develop into students!

Ms. Tracy Garvey

I earned my B.A. in English from the University of the Pacific in 1986 and began teaching high school the same year. I have a Masters degree in Educational Administration from the University of Phoenix. At Arcohe, I have taught 5th through 8th grade. Herald is my hometown where my husband and I are raising two teenage kids, two dogs, two cats, and three horses. I enjoy spending time in my garden, riding quads and horses, sewing, and reading.

Monica Petersen
I was raised just up the road in Galt, and recently made the big move out to Herald :-) Where I live with my husband (who is an Arcohe alum) and our 4 dogs. I received my B.A. in Communication Studies from California State University of Long Beach. After working in staffing and insurance sales for some years I decided that the part I enjoyed most about both positions was the teaching/educational I returned to school and earned my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, with a Bilingual Authorization from California State University of Sacramento. I am excited to be a part of this great school and community. I look forward to the adventure ahead as the new Spanish teacher here at Arcohe!

Mrs. Randa Gregorio

I began my teaching career at Arcohe School in 2001 shortly after earning a teaching credential from Sac State. Since then I have enjoyed teaching 6th grade, a couple of 5th/6th combinations, Middle School Reading and Math Intervention, and 8th grade Science and Language Arts. While building a career at Arcohe I have also become a proud wife and mother of three. In my free time I enjoy playing indoor co-ed soccer with my husband, running my kids to and from their activities, and sewing. Every year brings new challenges and excitement, but one thing never changes and that is the wonderful support given by the community of Herald that makes teaching at Arcohe GREAT!

Mrs. Melissa Komarov

Galt is my hometown and it has always been my dream to teach in the community I reside in. I graduated from Sacramento State University with my B.A and teaching credential. I also have my supplemental authorizations in History and English. Lucky for me, I will be teaching 7th grade History and English this year. I have two beautiful children, and an amazing husband plus 4 cats! One of my children will be attending Arcohe. In my free time I like to kayak and camp with my family. I’m very excited to be apart of the Herald community!

Mrs. Carol Reller

I graduated from Sacramento State University with my Masters in Speech/Language Pathology.  I then worked in the Elk Grove District for 16 years.  My first 11 years was spent teaching in a special day classroom for children with severe disorders of language.  I then became an itinerant speech and language specialist for 5 years.  The opportunity arose for me to become the Speech and Language Specialist at Arcohe.  This was appealing because I live in this community and my 3 children have all attended Arcohe from Kindergarten through 8th grade.  I am in my 11th year at Arcohe now, and enjoy working with our special education population, as well as all the knowledgeable teachers and my special education team.

Mrs. Lori Salfen

As a fourth generation to the Galt/Herald area and the daughter of an educator, it was only natural that I became part of the Arcohe School Staff. I joined the teaching staff of Arcohe in 1990. Over the past 25 years with the Arcohe School District, I have had the opportunity to teach many roles at Arcohe over the years. Now in my 26th year of teaching, I am having the pleasure of educating children of students from my very first class at Arcohe School. My husband and I raised two beautiful daughters, who also attended Arcohe School. Arcohe is an important part of my life.

Mrs. Jenise Satoshige

My name is Jenise Satoshige and I am teaching kindergarten this year. After graduating from Lodi High School, I attended San Joaquin Delta College and California State University, Sacramento where I earned my B.A. degree in Liberal Studies. I received my California Clear Teaching Credential from C.S.U.S. and am C.L.A.D. certified. It has been my pleasure to teach in the primary grades at Arcohe School since 1991. My husband and I have two children and I feel that being a parent has given me an even greater appreciation of children. I enjoy working with the children, staff, and parents of Arcohe School.

Mrs. Candace Sauter

My name is Candace Sauter and I teach Kindergarten. This will be my 21st year of teaching, and my 14th year at Arcohe!  I received my B.A degree and my teaching credential from San Jose State University and then started teaching in the Bay Area. In 2001, my husband and I decided to relocate to the Sacramento area, and I began teaching here at Arcohe. Despite being a "city girl", Arcohe and the close knit community of Herald have become home to me!  I live in Elk Grove with my husband Jerry, my daughter Emily, my son Ethan, and my wiener dog, Lilo. When I am not teaching, I love to hang out with my kids, scrapbook, and perfect my photography skills.

Mrs. Paula Selby

Originally from North Dakota, I moved to California and grew up in Sacramento.  I earned my Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Credential at California State University of Sacramento.  I began my career with Sacramento City Unified School District, and after commuting for 6 years, decided it was time to move my place of employment closer to home.   For the past 20 years I have had the privilege of educating the middle school students in the Wilton and Herald communities here at Arcohe.  I enjoy spending time with my husband of 33 years, our huge extended family, and most recently, our first grandchild.
 Ms. Katie Stockwell
I am Ms. Stockwell and this is my second year at Arcohe!

I was born and raised in the Northwest in Bellingham, Washington. I moved to Midtown Sacramento about a year ago and have been enjoying the beautiful weather and exciting culture of downtown. On my weekends and time off I like to be outside as much as possible, hiking and spending time on the water kayaking and paddle boarding. I graduated from the University of Oregon, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Minor in Spanish. I loved Oregon so much I stayed for another year where I completed a program to earn my Teaching Credential and a Master of Teaching and Curriculum. After my first year here I can definitely say I love the Arcohe staff, students, parents and community!

Mrs. Becky Towery
I was born and raised in the Sacramento area as one of six kids in a tight-knit family. I currently live in Orangevale with my husband (my high school sweetheart) and our hilarious German Shepherd, Eva. I enjoy spending time with my family and cooking meals with my husband. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my BA in Liberal Studies from Sacramento State. I went on to get my credential through CalStateTEACH. This is my second year teaching Transitional Kindergarten at Arcohe. I have always loved working with young children and am so fortunate to get to do that here at Arcohe.

Mr. Casey Vandenburg

I have been working at Arcohe since January 6, 1986.  I have had the opportunity – and it has been a pleasure -- to teach all grade levels (K-8) during my time at Arcohe.  I grew up on a dairy in Galt with two rock solid parents and 10 brothers and sisters.  My wife and I enjoy hiking, walking, and good Mexican food.  In the classroom, I think of myself as a geometry junky who loves to watch students perform in plays and skits.  Outside of the classroom, I have coached over 75 different teams in basketball, baseball, soccer, and football.  When I am not teaching or hiking, I now enjoy working in my garden and playing in my shop.

 Mrs. Debbie Valenzona

I am the reading intervention teacher at Arcohe School and my name is Debbie Valenzona. I have worked at Arcohe School for 25 years, in addition, have taught English at American River College during the evenings for 8 years. I live in Elk Grove and enjoy running, cycling, hiking, group exercise at the gym, hanging with my pets, and reading. I hold 2 B.A. degrees in English and Liberal Students from CSU, Northridge and Sacramento respectively. I have 1 daughter who graduated from the University of California at Davis majoring in Biotechnology and Engineering and my son is a freshman at California State University, Sacramento majoring in Criminal Justice..

Mrs. Wendy Walker

I graduated from Johnson & Wales University in 1990 with a degree in Culinary Arts and traveled a great deal as a chef. I even had the opportunity to work at Walt Disney World! I decided that it wasn’t the career for me and went back to school for my special education credential and Masters of Education degree from the University of the Pacific. I started working at Arcohe in 2000. My husband, son Cyrus, Steve the dog, Poe and Nemesis our two cats keep me very busy in Elk Grove. I am interested in drawing, reading, scrapbooking and yoga. I look forward to having a rocking school year!
